WHITE POWDER

Linkin Park – In Between

I was on my way to the bus station. Despite everything I felt pretty good. I wasn’t skipping down the sidewalk or anything, but I liked some things about myself and I didn’t wan to die. It was the closest I’d been to optimistic in years. — Apathy and Other Small Victories by Paul Neilan

Second half of the book felt like it was written drunk, it felt a bit rushed and some what inconsistent with the beginnings. Timeline felt a bit more warped than usual, but it’s weird and funny. The type of funny isn’t as LOL as some other books you might have read. But as you read, you’ll stop and chuckle and return to reading. It’s not that easy to put down, so time-block a bit for this one. Oh lots of vulgarity, which I like very much.

In the book there’s a what is described as -sadistic corporate climber- woman. After reading about her and her behaviors, it’s what we are suppose to aspire to. Obviously not everyone wants to be a corporate exec, but these goal oriented, let-not-one-day pass life style that we lead is somewhat unhealthy. and it’s ironic since i just posted an entry about time-blocking on my other blog!

let’s hope that my kind of ‘doing-well’ is different, because right now i’m not really sure there could be a difference.

wikipedia described this book as a “possibly part of a trend of novels focusing on directionless people of an unusually young age for such restlessness”

won’t it be ironic if young people HAD directions? But i’m also rooting for direction-less anti-heros, who find people that got it together interesting? isn’t it the raw human emotions of struggle much more beautiful? okay i’ll shut up now…! It was also cute how he focused on cubicle-hate, that’s so early 2000 late 1990s! We don’t work in cubicles anymore, we suffer in open spaces with 20 year olds as our CEOs, not making money but getting to attend the Grammys. Oh wait, I work for GAP, i’m just going to take this battery pack and smack it over my head now.

I sincerely hope I get to be a 20-something thats making it and getting there with my innovation and love for the environment, I’m 21 and i think it’s too damn late.

Also Paul writes a blog, which wikipedia described as ‘regularly upating’, his last entry dated 2008… it’s..not 2008 anymore. And the kicker is he uses typepad, innovation, you gota love it.

OH YEAH, my biggest impression of the book, he writes like he’s British, the whole time i felt like i was reading a book from across the pond, but it’s from America, he writes like he’s British. quite mind blowing actually..

what a random entry, new hair cut after the cut

SO SPRUNG

first day of school after OLYMPICS, had to write a midterm (!!!!) and i was feeling feverish too, decided to come home instead of waiting around for my next class…

and rather than being a productive member of society, i made this instead!

i’m so looking forward to spring, i think even I am sick of all the leather, studs and black, time for fresh spring fun! I’m so glad I have all the key items of the season, just need a few more floral tops to wear from spring into summer!

can’t wait to wear lighter colored pants again! and my lovely A. Wang for GAP trench. I just feel like i need more floral printed stuff, and this amazing gap denim moto jacket. EVERYTIME GAP makes something good, they decide to not ship to all the stores, instead they continue to flood us with the crap that they recolor season after season.

Dont know if you got a chance to catch the closing ceremony last night, i would like to apologize on behalf of my country for all the shitty music exports, who knew avril is still alive? WHO KNEW? yeah, it was so damn awkward, had to walk away and pretend it wasn’t on…

i’m really looking forward to 2014 in SOCHI simply because of the gorgeous Natalia Vodianova, as she’s the official spokesperson for the 2014 games. She was here yesterday for the closing ceremonies, so gorgeous! If you aren’t familiar with her, watch this and fall in love.

i love that she has children and so nice and kind! I love her this quote from the video “Success comes from happiness, you attract positive energy when you give out positive energy.”

NOTHING TO TYPE BUT THIS

I HAVEN’T HAD SUCH BAD WRITERS BLOCK FOR A LONG TIME NOW

I WRITE A LOT OF “DRAFTS” THAT NEVER GET PUBLISHED

BECAUSE AFTER A NIGHT’S SLEEP, THESE SMALL PROBLEMS AREN’T REALLY PROBLEMS ANYMORE

THIS HAS BEEN THE MENTALITY THAT GOT ME THROUGH THIS YEAR

I AM OKAY

I CAN’T HAVE PEOPLE GET ME DOWN

BECAUSE I NEVER LET MYSELF DOWN

I KNOW I DESERVE BETTER

AND WHEN I WALK AWAY I WONT FEEL SAD

IT’S TIME FOR ME TO TAKE MY BITE OF THE WORLD

BECAUSE HERE I COME

AND NOTHING’S STOPPING ME

the white tiger & the magicians

This is one of those entries that’s photo-less and i type a LOT so skip if you must!

i never read hype books, that means if i see this book recommended too often by half-assed bloggers and is constantly on amazon’s top 10, i won’t read it.

thats not true, new york’s best seller’s list is pretty much my go-to-list for novels nowadays. i mean if they live in new york they must know what they are talking about.

not the inspirational kind

some quotes that i found interesting throughout my readings of microserf and the gum thief by douglas coupland

The Gum Thief

pg208 “I think there’s much to be said for feeling numb. Time passes more quickly. You eat less, and because numbness encourages laziness, you do fewer things, good or bad, and the world’s probably a better place. Being numb makes you a crime fighter!”
pg124 “wouldn’t it be great if we all lived in a world where everybody believed everyone else’s lies? the lies would be cancelled out and you’d get left with ultratruth.”

pg109 “I like animals. they are better than people. Even when they are mean they are pure, wherease people, when they are mean, are simply lost.”

Microserf

pg 227 – “it’s like male geeks dont know how to deal with real live women, so they just assume it’s a user interface problem. not their fault. they’ll just wait for the next version to come out – something more “user friendly”.

reading is cool 8-)

being emma,  i can get random anxiety attacks, especially by myself for honest to god no good reason. i always feel peaceful when i go to a book store or a library where i can flip through books! magazines! periodicals! at my leisure, and that calms me down a lot.

this book caught my eye at the library (yay pay taxes so we can have books to read plz!) What a gorgeous cover, despite its content, LOVE STORIES blegh, I hope it’s those type of love stories with dark humor and the forbidden kind of love with awkward people who aren’t very looking. Who’s sick of damn good looking romeo and beautiful juliet?! *raises hands* ME!!!

And I picked up this random book up when I was studying biochem. Really interesting book, it involves two main characters Roza and Chris. Every chapter alternates the first person. One chapter is in Roza’s point of view and one is in Chris’ point of view. It sounds kinda lame and try hard but it’s really really good. Well it’s because the topic that revovles around it.

I also love this book (thus far at least) because it revolves a lot of the rambling about aging, and what love is.

When you look back afterwards, you can always find another way of putting it. You say, ‘ I was obsessed, it was really lust, I was fooling myself,’ because after you’ve recovered from being in love, you always decide that that wasn’t what it was.

Everytime you fall in love it’s a bit different, and in any case love is a word that gets used too lightly. It ought to be a sacred word that’s hardly ever used. …
